If you follow the Crimson Tide, tonight's the night. Alabama hosts Sam Houston at Coleman Coliseum at 6:30 p.m. to open the season, ranked No. 18 in the USA TODAY Sports preseason Coaches Poll after going undefeated through three October exhibitions. It's one of four Alabama programs opening their men's seasons over three days.
Expect tougher tests soon. Coach Nate Oats schedules hard on purpose. "I don't think playing 13 cupcakes prepares you for SEC play," he said at SEC Tipoff media day last year. Closer to home, UAB plays Nicholls State at Bartow Arena Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m.
- Next at home: Arkansas State, Oakland, Seton Hall, Kennesaw State
- Players Era 16: nine of 16 teams ranked in the preseason
- Auburn: hosts Southeastern Louisiana Wednesday, 7 p.m.
Alabama's schedule gets tougher between Nov. 24 and Dec. 16
