About this event
LMSA will host an educational and cultural event celebrating Día de los Muertos, a Mexican and Latin American tradition that honors and remembers loved ones who have passed.
The event will open with a 15–20 minute presentation on the history and significance of the holiday. It will cover the holiday’s Indigenous origins, how it blended with the Catholic observances of All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, and how communities celebrate it today.
After the presentation, attendees will make papel picado, which are traditional decorative cut-paper banners. They will also make paper marigolds (cempasúchil), the flower traditionally used to decorate ofrendas (altars).
Traditional refreshments will be provided, including pan dulce, horchata, and café con leche.
The event is open to all students.
