COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Birmingham’s McCorquodale Transfer carefully moved candy-coated gingerbread houses to the Vestavia Hills Civic Center for today's Gingerbread Jam fundraiser honoring Megan Montgomery, with local families & coworkers building the houses at community prep parties while visitors vote and enjoy event activities.  WVTM 13
  • The 411 Kids Foundation is hosting a breakfast with Santa today in Moody for local children. Families can enjoy festive treats and a cheerful start to the holiday season.  6 WBRC News
  • Today, 1,000 families will receive free groceries at Kelly Ingram Park (a community hub) as local organizers work to help residents access food.  6 WBRC News
  • Pathways Shelter in Birmingham will open warming stations this weekend as temperatures drop below freezing, offering 24-hour space with cots for unhoused women and children and accepting donations of blankets and sleeping bags.  WVTM 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Magic City Fabric held its soft opening Dec. 6-7 at 4830 5th Avenue South to offer Birmingham residents a community space for curated fabrics and sewing classes. Owner Bea Cross plans a grand opening in January to expand creative learning in a welcoming setting.  CBS 42
  • Edgar's Bakery will invest $13.1 million in a new 30,000 sqft production and distribution center at the corner of U.S. 31 (Alabama 119) in Pelham. The project will create 40 jobs and finish in December 2027 with support from a Pelham City Council tax abatement.  Yellowhammer News
  • The Filling Station will expand into Gardendale with a new location at 250 City Street (in a growing suburb). Partner Josh Brakefield and owner Bobby Lorino plan to open within the next few months, offering their unique Italian recipes.  Bham Now
  • A new escape room is set to open soon at The Summit, housed in the former Pottery Barn Kids space (300 Summit Blvd., Suite 102) and part of an evolving scene that includes a fast-paced mock game show next door, with more details coming soon.  Bham Now

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fannie Mae will relocate part of its workforce from San Francisco to Birmingham, creating finance, servicing and accounting jobs with the new office expected to open in 2026. Senator Katie Britt celebrated the move — citing the region's pro-jobs atmosphere.  Yellowhammer News
  • Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association) announced its San Francisco office will relocate to Birmingham early next year, bringing hundreds of jobs. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville said the move aims to cut costs and improve lender service in the southeast.  CBS 42

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Salute to Veterans Bowl in Montgomery (Dec. 16, 8:00 p.m. CST) pits Troy vs. Jacksonville State; the 68 Ventures Bowl in Mobile (Dec. 17, 7:30 p.m.) hosts Louisiana vs. Delaware; and the Birmingham Bowl (Dec. 29, 1:00 p.m.) features Georgia Southern vs. Appalachian State.  Yellowhammer News
