  • The Alabama Department of Workforce launched a new portal for reporting new hires effective Dec. 4; employers needed to register with their FEIN and Employer Account Number to comply with state law and add up to five filers to upload records (CSV or TXT formats).  Yellowhammer News

  • UAB’s nonprofit startup Dream a Little Dream, founded by Dr. Hector Gutierrez, expanded cystic fibrosis care in low-resource areas after its launch as an independent 501(c)(3) in September, building on a pilot in Santiago, Chile (its network now supports teams across Latin America and the Middle East improving patient outcomes).  University of Alabama at Birmingham

  • Homewood's City Council approved rezoning for two parcels at Brookwood Village (creating two lots for a 30,000 sqft sports medicine and office space with parking). Construction for Andrews Sports Medicine will begin in April 2026.  AL.com

  • Oscar 'Butler' Williams was honored yesterday at a special exhibit at the downtown courthouse, where local leaders and family received a plaque to recognize his long legacy in the Industrial League baseball community.  The Birmingham Times
  • Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill said that despite trying to avoid a rematch, Georgia Southern and App State (division rivals in the SBC East) will face off in the Birmingham Bowl. The game starts on Monday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. CST in Protective Stadium.  6 WBRC News
  • Former Alabama coach Nick Saban was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday and recalled lessons from coaches and family that shaped his record six titles.
