  • Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is hosting its 12th annual turkey giveaway to support local families this holiday season.  6 WBRC News

CRIME NEWS

  • UAB officials said that on Saturday morning two football players were stabbed at the Football Operations Center, sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and had the suspect taken into custody while the team kicked off its game at Protective Stadium at 2 p.m. against the USF Bulls.  1819 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • City Walk BHAM launches its holiday season today with a full day of festive activities for families and pets. The event includes a Christmas Pawty at The Barkery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—Friendsgiving Fun at City Walk Social from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.—and a Santa and Friends Caroling Parade at 5:30 p.m. that ends at the Green Block Amphitheater with a Christmas Tree Lighting at 6 p.m.  ABC 33/40

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miles College’s Purple Marching Machine will defend its 2024 Red Lobster HBCU Band of the Year title on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Led by Prof. Willie J. Snipes, Jr. and Bryan Nalls, the band—praised by President Bobbie Knight for balancing rehearsals, classes and responsibilities—invites alumni and local supporters to attend.  ABC 33/40
  • Alabama Power hosted its annual Lineworker Career Days at its General Services Complex in Calera where more than 200 high school students rotated through interactive stations—featuring lessons in electricity, welding, and linework—and learned about utility careers.  Yellowhammer News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Cynthia Lee Almond, president of the Alabama Public Service Commission, warned that new data center projects such as Project Marvel in Bessemer and Meta's Montgomery facility may force local families and small businesses to cover expensive infrastructure costs. She said new measures will require companies to pay for extra utility and service needs (with facilities that may cover up to 4 million square feet and use resources similar to those of a small city).  ABC 33/40
  • Mayor Randall Woodfin offered his condolences on the passing of Melva Langford and recognized her long-standing service to the community — his remarks underscored the deep loss felt by local residents.  6 WBRC News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • WBRC shared a list of places where you can meet Santa and take pictures this holiday season, and it features stops like Quintard Mall (Nov. 28 to Dec. 24) and Bass Pro Shops (with free photo and video) as well as Christmas at the Falls, Oxford Festival of Lights, and Sportsman Lake Winter Wonderland where you can ride a Christmas train and drink hot chocolate.  6 WBRC News

  • On Saturday, Alabama beat Eastern Illinois 56-0—scoring eight rushing touchdowns and gaining 539 total yards—to give backup players game time ahead of its Iron Bowl matchup against Auburn.  WVTM 13
  • Alabama Black Belt Adventures opened submissions for its 14th annual Big Buck Photo Contest, inviting hunters to share photos of trophy whitetail deer taken legally in the 23-county Black Belt during the 2025/26 season — all entries must be submitted online.
