  • Los Valedores food truck has opened its first storefront at 301 Oxmoor Rd in Homewood—expanding its menu and seating to serve fresh, authentic Mexican food to the Greater Birmingham Area.   • A historic building in Five Points South will become Sakéroom, a chic lounge serving Japanese-style sushi and cocktails. Owned by Paige Depperschmidt, the venue will open in spring—revitalizing a long-empty storefront in the neighborhood.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Birmingham’s well-known jazz venues bring live music to audiences as the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame reopens at the historic Carver Theatre after renovations, offering free lessons and a new Jazz on 4th series. Local spots such as Dave’s Pub + DJD Theatre host regular jam sessions that draw both local and out-of-town musicians + inspire new talent.  The Birmingham Times
  • Brandy and Monica energized a sold-out Legacy Arena Saturday night with a mix of classic hits and modern sounds for their highly anticipated The Boy Is Mine Tour — the performance included strong vocals, dynamic dance moves, and a stirring Whitney Houston tribute, with opener Jamal Roberts and Kelly Rowland adding extra star power. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miles College has partnered with Nvidia—an industry leader in AI—to offer vital training for its students and other HBCUs so they can be ready for jobs that need AI skills. The program covers classroom instruction, faculty research, and community outreach, and it will expand AI learning in the region.  Bham Now
  • Birmingham opened the federally funded North Star Learning Lab at North Birmingham Public Library on Wednesday. The lab, managed by Ed Farm in partnership with Lawson State Community College, offers high-tech tools for digital skills training that will help prepare over 1,600 local residents for tech economy jobs.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The new Blankenship Event Center was unveiled at the M. Barnett Lawley Forever Wild Field Trial Area in Hale County to host sporting dog events and various hunts — the 5,000-square-foot facility features accessible restrooms, a convertible meeting space, and an adjacent 4,000-square-foot pavilion. State contributions, Innovate funds, and local support helped complete the project, which is expected to attract regional and national events in the coming years.  Yellowhammer News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its meeting Tuesday, the Alabama Public Television Commission voted to keep its PBS contract through June 2026—after Governor Kay Ivey’s letter and strong public comment influenced the decision—while supporters filled the meeting room.
