- ➤ ¡HICA! is hosting its 23rd annual Tamale Sale with orders opening November 21 and available through December 7. The event, held at 117 Southcrest Drive (pick-up dates December 10 and 11) supports Latino families and celebrates a long-standing Birmingham tradition (started in 1999). Bham Now
- ➤ An immersive production of Sam Shepard’s Tooth of Crime opened Thursday night at 3120 3rd Avenue South and will run through Nov. 22 — produced by Tigerfish Productions in association with Centerstage and Birmingham AIDS Outreach, the show invites 80 audience members to explore a 9,000 square foot warehouse where no two performances are alike. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Local school districts in central Alabama showed strong gains on the 2025 State Report Cards, with 43 of 50 districts improving and Coosa County jumping nearly 14%—helping boost the region's scores—and six districts falling, with Greene County down by 4.17%. ABC 33/40
- ➤ On Nov. 13, Birmingham City Schools held a press conference and reported a historic score of 77 on the state report card—three points above last year and seven points better than three years ago, with chronic absenteeism dropping from 29% to 14% and F-rated schools reduced from 15 to one. School leaders credited teachers, support workers, and community partners for the focused efforts to address learning loss after COVID-19. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Birmingham is now accepting pre-registration forms for a $1 million program partnered with United Way that gives a $100 gift card to each qualifying SNAP recipient—Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin said about 23,000 residents rely on SNAP, and further instructions will follow once applications are received. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Andrews Sports Medicine is starting pre-construction planning for a $110M two-story center at Brookwood Village on the former Belk site—approved by Homewood City Council in May, the project will expand patient services with new features such as pharmacy, MRI scans, therapy and procedure rooms.
