- ➤ Burrow & Bloom will open Saturday, November 8 at 2024 Morris Ave in downtown Birmingham as a kids’ play village with a playhouse, schoolroom, and local business area—featuring handmade felt toys and a reading nook—in a space where parents can relax with coffee and treats. Bham Now
- ➤ Green Acres Cafe owner Greg Gratton and his wife Cynthia will give away free meals to families affected by the government shutdown on Sunday, Nov. 9, starting at noon at their 4th Avenue location in the Historic 4th Avenue Downtown Business District. Gratton said he will serve 10 cases of wings—about 550 four-piece meals with a bottle of water each—to help those in need without any political intent. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Since Monday, Birmingham and Christian Service Mission have run a food drive to help families facing a SNAP delay, with non-perishable donations accepted at 3600 Third Avenue South from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday—additional drop-off sites are open citywide as local leaders prepare to vote on further aid tomorrow. - ➤ On Halloween, a fire devastated three buildings on the 1300 block of 20th Street S in Five Points South—no one was injured, but 19 residents lost nearly all their belongings and several GoFundMe campaigns were started to help those displaced. Bham Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Six affordable housing projects statewide will receive over $4.4 million from the FHLBank Atlanta’s 2025 Affordable Housing Program General Fund. Two Birmingham projects include Kelsey Avondale, which will get $1 million for 55 rental units, and Finley Avenue Housing, which will receive $900,000 for 60 rental units — adding to nearly $100 million for 314 rental units statewide.
