- ➤ UAB is hosting its annual Blazers Against Hunger fundraiser this November to support Blazer Kitchen, the on-campus food pantry that provides nutritious food and essential supplies to patients, employees and students in need. Donations help Blazer Kitchen buy food at a cost share of 18 cents per pound through a partnership with the Community Food Bank (saving money to serve more than 2,000 community members each year). - ➤ Birmingham mother Jaice Caver said her daughter Raelyn is a finalist in Colossal’s Baby of the Year contest—voting ends on Nov. 20. If they win, Raelyn will receive $25,000 and a cover on Variety magazine, and Caver plans to give back to help families in need. WVTM 13

- ➤ A AAA study found that 96% of drivers admitted to aggressive driving behavior over the past year, showing many have sped, tailgated, and cut off others on the road. - ➤ Henry Panion III’s arrangements of Richard Smallwood’s 'Anthem of Praise' and 'Bless the Lord' will be played by the London Symphony Orchestra at the Nov. 9 concert 'Symphonic Gospel: Celebration' — a big honor for him — and the music will mix gospel and classical sounds. - ➤ Drivers in Birmingham saw lower gas prices this week—GasBuddy recorded the city’s average at $2.65 per gallon, a drop of 4.7 cents from last week, while state prices averaged $2.62 per gallon. National prices rose slightly to $3.00 per gallon due to a Midwest refinery fire, and analysts expect a possible U.S.-China trade deal to keep prices steady before they dip ahead of Thanksgiving. - ➤ Highland Avenue medians will soon feature new native pollinator gardens with creative signs for a pollinator restaurant, Butterfly Buffet, Caterpillar Spa and Bee Brew Pub—an effort led by Alabama Audubon and Friends of Highland Park. - ➤ The Alabama Department of Human Resources stated that SNAP benefits will be suspended for November due to the federal shutdown — affecting more than 750,000 residents who rely on over $140 million in monthly support. Benefits already issued on EBT cards remain valid, and residents will still be able to apply for assistance and use local food banks until federal funding resumes. ABC 33/40
