  • A local woman, Amanda Crumley, got a new roof after storm damage left her home exposed and her insurance funds were misused by a contractor. Thomas Ford of Little Pigs Roofing—working with the City of Southside and SRS Distribution—stepped in after her story was featured on ABC 33/40 I-Team to restore her home.  ABC 33/40

BUSINESS NEWS

  • B'Ham Chicken, the new stall owned by Young and Kookie Shin from The Standard, opened Friday, Oct. 24 at The Pizitz Food Hall for lunch and now serves fried chicken, chicken tenders, wings, and chicken sandwiches with sides like mac+cheese and cole slaw. The stall aims to offer a focused menu with classic Southern flavors to local diners.  Bham Now
  • Good Hands Transport, a Birmingham-based company founded in June 2024, expanded its service statewide on October 22nd after receiving Passenger Authority on July 1 — the firm now provides safe non-emergency rides for daily travel and medical needs.  Bham Now

  • Birmingham celebrated sculptor Joe Minter on Friday at the AWAKEN event held during Magic City Classic Week at the Birmingham Museum of Art. Mayor Randall Woodfin presented him with the Putting People First Award — acknowledging his lasting impact on art and justice.  The Birmingham Times

  • Former Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron announced he will run for lieutenant governor in 2026 — he will face candidates Wes Allen, Rick Pate and Nicole Wadsworth. His move comes as he shifts from a celebrated sports career, after a broadcast moment that helped launch his wife Katherine Webb’s career.  Yellowhammer News
  • Alabama residents who rely on SNAP and WIC now worry they may lose essential benefits on Nov. 1 as the government shutdown continues. Rep. Gary Palmer and Rep. Terri Sewell have both urged protecting these benefits—vital for over 750,000 SNAP users and around 110,000 WIC participants.  WVTM 13
  • Birmingham City Council approved a $547,619 contract with Freshwater Land Trust to advance the Shades Creek Greenway project — linking the Irondale Furnace Trail with Flora Johnston Nature Preserve.   • A crowded Legion Field hosted ESPN's First Take on Friday morning, where Stephen A. Smith, Cam Newton, and Ryan Clark taped a live show from the 50-yard line—highlighting the excitement ahead of the Magic City Classic.   • Alabama A&M head football coach Sam Shade returns to Birmingham for the 84th Magic City Classic today. The coach, a Birmingham native who played at Legion Field (where he took part in big college games), will lead his team on the sideline.  6 WBRC News
  • Ty Simpson and Alabama have climbed to No. 4 after four wins over ranked SEC teams — they will face South Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium as 12 1/2-point favorites.
