- ➤ A Jasper flight instructor (Lainey Anderson) died in a plane crash in Montana’s Bob Marshall Wilderness on Oct. 17 that killed her father (the pilot) and younger sister during a family trip. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Cleveland High School students prayed for Kimber Mills, who is believed to be hurt in a Pinson bonfire shooting, and authorities said others were injured + Steven Whitehead was charged with murder and held without bond. WVTM 13

- ➤ Birmingham Public Library will host the 4th Annual Classic Cocktails event on Oct. 21 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at 2100 Park Place—this event fuels free programs across all 18 locations and celebrates HBCU pride with music, tailgate-style food, cocktails and premium cigars. The Birmingham Times

- ➤ Entertainer Katt Williams visited Miles College last week at Greystone Golf and Country Club to launch the Legacy Classic that will support scholarships and innovation; he was honored with an honorary doctorate at the Top 50 Alumni Awards — college leaders said the new partnership with his Kemet movie studio will help boost student opportunities. - ➤ Lay Lake Fire & Rescue near Childersburg is seeking community help to fund a dedicated fire and rescue boat because current vessels do not handle full emergencies on Lay Lake. The department recently saved a house on an island using a private boat—and it now urges donations, grants, or surplus marine program connections to improve its response. ABC 33/40

- ➤ On October 19th, people gathered in Vestavia Hills for an Alzheimer's walk that raised awareness and funds for research. Organizers aim to collect $500,000 for the metro area and still need about $300,000 with donations accepted through December. WVTM 13
