- ➤ Birmingham Park and Recreation opened the city’s first all-inclusive playground at Bessie Estell Park on Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. + The project, inspired by Veronica Ware’s vision for children with special needs, was celebrated by the Mayor’s Office, local officials, and the Glen Iris Neighborhood Association. - ➤ Birmingham Zoo welcomed its new jaguar Diego on Aug. 25 from the Memphis Zoo after Khan was moved to Brevard Zoo as part of the Jaguar Species Survival Plan. Diego has adapted well in a renovated habitat that now features a waterfall, new landscaping & a dynamic climbing structure for his enrichment. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Black Warrior Riverkeeper filed a lawsuit against PB Services for alleged Clean Water Act violations at its Bessie Mine and Locust Fork Red Rock facilities in Jefferson County—accusing the company of exceeding pollutant discharge limits and failing to perform required sampling. The suit seeks a judgment declaring the violations, injunctive relief to halt the discharges, and civil penalties of $68,445 per violation to safeguard water quality in Locust Fork. ABC 33/40
