- ➤ Concerned parents and students in Tuscumbia have funded a digital billboard on State Route 13 reading 'Justice for August!' to call for answers after 15-year-old Deshler High School freshman August Borden was severely injured in an accidental fall on August 19—an anonymous donor known as H.T. - ➤ Birmingham’s only EDM festival, Land of Infinity, will take place on October 17 at Sloss Furnaces and will feature 19 artists performing on three stages with bass, techno, club and Latin music. The Halloween-themed event will run from 8PM to 3AM—also offering local food trucks, vendors and a costume contest to enhance the experience. Bham Now
- ➤ Vulcan will get a new historical marker at a ceremony on Friday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m.—the marker honors its 1976 addition to the National Register of Historic Places made possible by a grant from the William G. - ➤ Birmingham approved a new resolution that expands its role in opioid settlements by including more drug distribution companies to hold them responsible for the crisis. Council President Darrell O’Quinn said the expanded settlements will use funds to hire extra attorneys and support emergency services — putting more resources into opioid abatement. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Birmingham City Council approved a reallocation of federal funds today to expand the RESTORE program to serve at-risk youth as young as eleven instead of those aged sixteen to nineteen — a move aimed at preventing early steps toward criminal behavior. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Birmingham is accepting proposals from developers to design, finance, build and operate a hotel on the vacant Trinity Church site along Carraway Boulevard to add at least 100 rooms for downtown visitors—submissions are due by Oct. 31 at 4 p.m. to support local growth. The Birmingham Times
