  • Railroad Park celebrated 15 years this weekend when Birmingham residents gathered in the 19-acre downtown park to enjoy food, live entertainment and community events—local leaders say the park has boosted economic growth and drawn new businesses to the city.  CBS 42

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Spirit Halloween will open its Birmingham store at 313 Summit Blvd in October—next to Arhaus—while stores in Hoover, Irondale, Pell City, Sylacauga, Oxford and Gadsden are already open with hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.  CBS 42

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ramsay High School celebrated its 95th anniversary—marking a significant milestone in its longstanding role in education.  6 WBRC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jefferson County Commission approved resolutions to allocate funds to boost local community programs—such as a $250,000 grant for music education at HBCUs, $25,000 for a literacy program, library support, community center renovations, and low-income heating services. The commission also raised funding for pathology services to over $2 million and approved additional grants for youth athletics, pediatric care, and roadway improvements—demonstrating broad support for local projects.  ABC 33/40

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pumpkin patches in central Alabama are now open for fall with fun activities like pumpkin picks, crafts and hayrides. Homewood’s Sims Garden Pumpkin Patch welcomes visitors daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Oct. 31 and Bessemer’s Rolling Pumpkin Patch will open on Oct. 4 with accessible events—other local sites also offer seasonal attractions.  CBS 42

  • Alabama won a dramatic 24-21 road game against Georgia on Sunday—boosting the Crimson Tide to No. 10 with a 3-1 record and re-establishing them as a contender.
