- ➤ Railroad Park will hold its 15th anniversary celebration on Sunday, September 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Birmingham — the free event features food, music, games for kids, and design activations sponsored by the Philip Morris Fund for the Design Arts — and local acts including Grammy winner Pynk Beard will perform. - ➤ A group of about ten Muslim women met on a recent Sunday morning at Red Mountain Park to hike and share support. The Birmingham Islamic Center started this monthly meetup in summer 2023 to offer a safe space for exploring local trails—such as Ruffner Mountain and Moss Rock Preserve—and build community through shared faith. - ➤ A new program called SAFEguard is launching in Bessemer to help domestic violence victims by linking survivors with community services and education on abuse. - ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey will cut the ribbon today at 11 a.m. in Montevallo as she unveils a new replica of Independence Hall at American Village—modeled after the Philadelphia landmark to offer an interactive learning experience for students and visitors from Alabama and nearby states. WVTM 13
- ➤ The VA has awarded more than $11 million in grants to three Alabama groups—United Way of Central Alabama, HOPE for All Gulf Coast and Volunteers of America Southeast—to fight veteran homelessness. - ➤ State Rep. Juandalynn Givan had an ethics complaint dismissed by the Alabama Ethics Commission after the charges over campaign payments to her brother were deemed unfounded. Givan called the claim a political attack—she plans to work for changes in ethics laws before the election. 1819 News

- ➤ Sixty primary care physicians now serve rural areas as a result of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama’s Medical Scholarship Program, which covers the last two years of medical school for students who commit to three years in underserved communities—144 students have received these scholarships so far. - ➤ UAB announced season ticket pricing for the 2026-27 basketball season at the renovated Bartow Arena with upper-level tickets at $275, lower-level tickets at $300, and Blaze's Corner packages as low as $125.
