- ➤ Birmingham Fire and Rescue warned that September's dry weather has made grass and brush very flammable — even a small spark from a cigarette or lawnmower can start a fast-moving fire. Lt. - ➤ The Railroad Park Foundation will host a picnic to celebrate Railroad Park's 15th anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring food trucks, a Birmingham Showcase with local merchants, a Kid Zone, and live music by The Birmingham Youth and Young Adult Choir and Pynk Beard. - ➤ Organizers canceled the Iron Hills Music Festival set for October 11 and 12 because rising production costs and low demand made the event unfeasible—full refunds will be processed within 30 business days to all ticket buyers. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Fiesta Birmingham will take place in Linn Park on September 27 from Noon to 8 p.m.—a free event offering cultural villages from over 20 nations, live music, dancing, food booths and fun activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Bham Now

- ➤ A Hoover City Schools employee returned from administrative leave after finishing required training—having fully cooperated with an investigation into an insensitive social media post. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Today, the nonprofit CAFE Group awarded a $1 million grant to Birmingham Promise, led by Samantha Williams, to cover up to four years of college tuition and offer internships for Birmingham City Schools graduates (the program has already helped over 1,600 students). - ➤ A federal judge ordered Jefferson County to redraw its commission lines due to racial gerrymandering — the county must file a report on a new plan within 30 days as the 2021 map packed Black voters into just two districts. WBHM
- ➤ Hoover City Council will hear the Hunden Group's findings on the Riverchase Galleria Market Study on Monday — the study looks at options for multi-family residential, retail, entertainment and hospitality spaces to transform the mall area into a new city center.
