- ➤ U.S. District Judge Madeline Haikala struck down Jefferson County’s 2021 commission map for racial gerrymandering under the Fourteenth Amendment and barred its use in future elections, following a four-day bench trial. - ➤ Bessemer's Planning and Zoning Board sent a controversial 700-acre data center proposal in the Rock Mountain Lakes community back to the city council for review. The council will vote on the plan on October 7—its 18 planned buildings are expected to generate tax revenue and create 330 tech jobs amid public opposition. ABC 33/40
- ➤ ALDOT will begin a 96-mile project on Monday, September 22 to replace older traffic signs along I-22 from the Mississippi state line to the I-65 interchange in Birmingham.
