COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bessemer residents voiced frustration at a meeting Saturday morning at Mannafested In Christ Ministries over a proposed $14.9 billion data center planned for 675 acres off Rock Mountain Lake Road, saying that poor transparency from city leaders has raised concerns over pollution, noise, light, higher utility bills, and falling home values in nearby neighborhoods—Red Mountain Heights and Rock Mountain Lake. The Planning and Zoning Committee will meet Tuesday to review the project before a final decision goes to the city council in October.  6 WBRC News

  • 316 Financial launches the Jimmie Hale Mission Challenge in Birmingham—donating $10 to Jimmie Hale Mission for each new checking account up to $10,000—and said the effort will change lives, according to spokesperson Paige Whitaker.  6 WBRC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Judge Teresa T. Pulliam, a longtime circuit judge known for her work in sentencing reform and equal justice, died earlier this week at 67 and was honored by the Birmingham Bar Foundation—her leadership and service left a strong mark on local legal practice. She also led civic groups that supported fairness in our community.  ABC 33/40
  • The Associated Builders and Contractors of Alabama endorsed Attorney General Steve Marshall for U.S. Senate on Friday—citing his support for local construction workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and his efforts to block Biden’s federal-contractor vaccine mandate. Marshall said he will uphold Alabama values and champion hard work if elected.  1819 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • New CDC data shows that reported overdose deaths in Alabama declined by 30 percent from March 2024 to March 2025—falling from 1,511 to 1,057 deaths and mirroring a national drop of 26.6 percent.  ABC 33/40

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama beat Wisconsin 38-14 Saturday — with Ryan Williams gaining 165 receiving yards and two touchdowns while Ty Simpson threw four touchdowns at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide claimed its 84th straight win over non-ranked teams and will take a bye week before facing Georgia on September 27.  1819 News
  • Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer said his team will use the confidence from their 73-0 win over ULM to aim for a win over Wisconsin—he noted that Wisconsin has retooled its defense after a tough loss last season.  WVTM 13
