- ➤ Big Bad Breakfast, a chain by James Beard Award-winning chef John Currence, will open its new Cahaba Heights location on Sept. 13 at 4317 Dolly Ridge Road, taking over the former Biscuit Love space with more than 3,000 square feet. The restaurant will serve breakfast, brunch and lunch daily from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. AL.com

- ➤ Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is offering a $10,000 reward for tips on the killing of retired educator Aldorithia Burrell — who was struck by a stray bullet on Sept. 3rd while on her West End porch — and police say her killer remains at large — as no tips have been received so far. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Birmingham City Schools has launched eight hydroponic classrooms to teach nearly 4,000 students food-based science and address challenges like absenteeism and food insecurity—backed by a $500,000 partnership between NY Sun Works and Jones Valley Teaching Farm. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday at Bush Hills STEAM Academy—marking the start of the initiative in a mix of high, middle, K‑8 and elementary schools. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Birmingham City Schools is the first district in the nation to train all employees—teachers, bus drivers, and custodians—to support students with sensory needs; the schools now offer sensory bags, calming stations, and designated quiet rooms to help children relax. - ➤ Birmingham City Council approved a measure that defers the Pizitz Building’s $3.2 million HUD loan for 24 months to help keep the historic downtown property active amid COVID-19 hardships—officials said the pause will allow time for rebranding and attracting new businesses for the food hall. - ➤ Mark Parnell, a former lawyer for the Birmingham Water Works Board, filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming that a new board canceled his $660k contract meant to keep the board running smoothly and that board members made disparaging comments about him—he is asking the court to reinstate his contract and provide back pay with interest.
