- ➤ Calera Baptist Church reopened its doors for worship on Sunday after repairs were finished on damage from a March EF-1 tornado — the congregation had held services at Calera High School until the church building was fixed. ABC 33/40
- ➤ A group of Birmingham theatre members will perform an evening of song and storytelling on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Terrific New Theatre—raising funds for Alzheimer’s research through the Alzheimer’s Association Alabama Chapter. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ At Hoover Crescent, Birmingham’s largest mosque, people from many countries met on Friday, Aug. 1 to pray and find unity. Community leaders say the mosque has served the local Muslim community since 2007—helping clear up wrong ideas and encouraging neighbors to support one another. AL.com
- ➤ A Birmingham woman hosted the first Magic City Smooth Jazz Legacy Series on Sunday at Iron City to honor her late husband Bernard Lockhart, who died from COVID in December, with performances by local and international artists such as Julian Vaughn—she said the sold-out event brought the community together as they remembered his love for smooth jazz. - ➤ Miss Alabama 2025 Emma Terry—also known as Miss Hoover—finished as fourth runner-up at the Miss America competition in Orlando. - ➤ The KPMG U.S. Foundation will provide a grant of $112,500 over three years to Birmingham Promise, a program that helps tuition assistance for Birmingham City Schools graduates — the support is part of a nationwide effort to boost education in local communities. The Birmingham Times
- ➤ UAB expects a record-breaking freshman class for fall 2025 with about 550 more students, a 25% increase over last year due to new buildings and attractive scholarships. The university is preparing for an enrollment cliff that is predicted to slow growth in the future. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ New mayors from at least 12 cities in Jefferson County have joined the Jefferson County Mayors Association—an exclusive group that manages emergency response and appoints members to key regional boards—after the recent municipal elections and upcoming runoffs. - ➤ Kali, the Irondale Police Department's K9 officer, got a new bullet and stab protective vest—donated by the non-profit Vested Interest in K9s Inc. which has given over 6,225 vests to police dogs across the nation. ABC 33/40
