- ➤ After 12 years on Morris Avenue, Carrigan’s Public House will close its location on September 6—its popular restaurant and cocktail bar is set to reopen in October at The William, a new downtown development that will keep its signature Land Rover back bar intact. Bham Now
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Birmingham police arrested 20-year-old Dorian Talley for capital murder in connection with a shooting on Aug. 12 that killed Quindarius Allen and injured another in the Smithfield neighborhood, and he is now held in Jefferson County Jail with no bond. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Kenda Monique Jones, 34, was walking on the northbound lanes of Interstate 59/20 near Messer Airport Highway when she was struck by a vehicle just before 4 a.m. on Monday—she was taken to UAB Hospital and later died as authorities investigated her death. WVTM 13
- ➤ The Birmingham police say 50-year-old Shannon Riggins has been missing since Aug. 9 — she was last seen in the 800 block of 20th Street South and authorities ask anyone with information to call the police. 6 WBRC News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Birmingham is set for a busy September full of culture and community events—ranging from the Broadway musical Wicked at the BJCC and downtown Artwalk to concerts, food festivals, and family markets across the city. Organizers have planned activities for all ages with both free admission and ticketed events available for local residents. Bham Now
- ➤ On Friday, Oct. 3, the UAB Arts Block Party will start at 5 p.m. on 10th Avenue South at UAB, where Endea Owens and The Cookout will perform live music and art using a Pay What You Choose ticket system—tickets are available at the door. University of Alabama at Birmingham

- ➤ John Vasa won District 3 in the Birmingham City Council election with 2,922 votes — an 83.8 percent victory — replacing longtime councilor Valerie Abbott after nearly 24 years of service. Other races saw runoffs in Districts 4, 8 and 9, while incumbents in Districts 1, 6 and 7 were re-elected and two candidates ran unopposed. The Birmingham Times
- ➤ This summer, Jefferson County opened a new 32,000-square-foot coroner’s office on Lakeshore Drive in Birmingham — it features a CT scanner, a drive-thru port for respectful case transfers, and increased examination space to support vital death investigations. The facility replaces the old Cooper Green location and aims to improve public health and safety. Bham Now
- ➤ Randall Woodfin won his third term as mayor after receiving more than 70% of nearly 25,000 votes (with a turnout of just 22% of 150,000 registered voters) in Birmingham. Critics like State Representative Juandalynn Givan expressed concern about voter engagement while Woodfin promised to continue his policies and will be sworn in on November 3. ABC 33/40
