CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Scam text messages falsely claim you owe money for a traffic ticket and warn that your license and registration will be suspended if you do not act immediately. Carl Bates from the Better Business Bureau and local officials say government agencies do not send texts and urge residents not to click any links—these messages are designed to steal personal information. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Birmingham Police Department's Special Enforcement Division made 69 arrests—45 felony and 24 misdemeanor charges—during the week of August 11 to August 17 as it seized firearms, narcotics and cash to enhance public safety in the city. ABC 33/40
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UAB cut the ribbon on its new rehabilitation pavilion that has 134 beds, therapy gyms and private rooms to help patients heal from stroke, brain and spinal injuries. The facility has a special seizure unit and indoor and outdoor spaces—like a rooftop garden and simulated city streets—that let patients build strength and practice everyday activities. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Athletes from Ramsay IB High School and A.H. Parker High School will tackle gun violence at the Third Annual Birmingham City Schools Stop the Violence Football Classic at Legion Field on August 21 at 7 p.m. They will use the game as a platform to share student views on youth violence—boosting community awareness. - ➤ ESPN's First Take will air live from Legion Field on October 24—covering the Amazon Magic City Classic presented by Coca-Cola that features Alabama A&M versus Alabama State.
