  • Eric Thomas said that cleaning up Village Creek and building a man-made canal near the Hugh Kaul Trail would give Birmingham a new river walk that could boost the area. The plan would cost about $37.5 million and use both public and private funds—mimicking the success of Oklahoma City's Bricktown Canal.  AL.com

  • Drivers on U.S. 231 near Alabama 174 north of Pell City face danger as a sinkhole reopens for the third time in less than a month—ALDOT said they are investigating the issue and may perform further repairs soon.  Yellowhammer News

  • Michael Mays leads the music program at New Hope Baptist Church in West End and grew the choir from 15 to 40 members while his group won the nation’s best choir award at the Sound Awards earlier this year. He celebrated his third anniversary as Minister of Music on August 3 and will keep building on the church’s long music history.  The Birmingham Times
