Good morning, Birmingham.

Joy East Buffet opened last weekend at The Pinnacle in Trussville, taking over the former Red Robin space (5029 Pinnacle Sq).

The buffet serves traditional Asian dishes such as sushi, hibachi, and egg rolls and is open seven days a week from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

The family of 3-year-old Ke’Torrius 'KJ' Starkes Jr., who died on July 22 after being left in a hot car by an Alabama DHR worker, filed a wrongful death lawsuit in Jefferson County Circuit Court against nine defendants — including worker Kela Stanford, Covenant Services Inc., and several DHR employees — alleging they failed to check on him for over five hours during a heat advisory.

Skeletal remains linked to a human skull that a dog found nearly a year ago on 5th Place NW were later joined by a tibia and a third bone discovered near the same home — the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said DNA tests will be done to see if the bones match the victim killed by a gunshot wound.

Birmingham City Council will vote today on spending $1.2 million to fund the final phase of the Home For All plan that prepares a downtown site at Faith Chapel Care Center for 14 micro-shelters and an office + secure wraparound services for the unhoused.
