- ➤ A man was arrested Wednesday in Jefferson County after he attempted to shoot into an occupied school bus — he now faces four counts of attempted murder, one count of attempted discharge of a firearm into an occupied bus, and third-degree criminal mischief. 1819 News

- ➤ Federal judges rejected Secretary of State Wes Allen’s appeal on August 7, ruling that Alabama’s congressional map discriminated against Black voters—voting rights groups brought the case and the decision requires the state to use a federally drawn map until a new plan is set using updated census data in 2030. The previous map helped elect two Black representatives in 2024 and remains in effect while lawmakers prepare a replacement. WBHM
- ➤ Birmingham's retired Circuit Court Judge Pete Johnson was honored as this week's Alabama Champion for over 40 years of service—he directed Boys State for 43 years, helped over 5,000 complete drug court programs, and launched Alabama's first drug court that inspired legislative expansion of specialized courts.
