- ➤ A former hotel on Crestwood Boulevard—once troubled with crime and linked to Bear Bryant's team stays—is being renovated into apartments for veterans near the new Birmingham East VA Clinic. The project by 1 Crestwood Development LLC will offer 60 units now and eventually 226 apartments—supporting veterans with stable housing. AL.com

- ➤ A traffic stop on July 31 in Shelby County led police to arrest Dewayne Holifield & Alexis Moore after a narcotics K9 alerted officers to one pound of meth and trafficking fentanyl in a Jeep Cherokee, where investigators also found a concealed firearm. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Jefferson County District Attorney Dany Carr said an officer in Homewood shot teen Jabari Peoples on June 23 after he grabbed a gun during a struggle — his family and attorney say they have many unanswered questions and want full video transparency. WBHM

- ➤ Preservationists, city leaders, and community advocates held a summit last month in downtown Birmingham to plan the restoration of the historic Prince Hall Masonic Temple.
