- ➤ A canine behaviorist with about 25 years of experience in Birmingham spoke up after a 7-year-old boy in Chilton County and a 50-year-old woman in Bessemer were attacked by dogs this week. - ➤ Birmingham civil rights attorney Richard Rice said—citing echoes of 2020 protests—that arrests of five women at a Homewood demonstration show a troubling pattern following the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jabari Peoples. Police said the protesters gathered at Homewood Soccer Park around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and that four were charged with disorderly conduct while Celida Soto faced additional charges—involving inciting to riot and resisting arrest. - ➤ Just before 1:30 a.m. Friday, an argument inside a Birmingham nightclub spilled outside near Platinum of Birmingham and multiple shots were fired that left one man seriously injured and taken to UAB Hospital — police said no arrests have been made. AL.com

- ➤ The Kiwanis Club of Birmingham’s preschool literacy project won the 2025 Signature Project award from Kiwanis International—its Kiwanis Reads program now adds $2,000 in funding to serve 1,200 students and expand into 10 new schools. - ➤ The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority received a $25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to build a new maintenance and operations facility for MAX Transit.
