  • Coca-Cola Bottling Co. United is building a new headquarters near the Tallapoosa exit on I-20/59 with a 150,000-square-foot office building and a 300,000-square-foot warehouse on a 105-acre site—after a groundbreaking in June 2024, the sleek glass facade is now taking shape. The $330 million project will open in 2027 and keep 750 jobs while adding up to 50 new ones—marking one of Birmingham’s largest private investments.  AL.com
  • Deon Gordon, a Birmingham native and Ramsay High graduate, is president and CEO of TechBirmingham which drove local tech innovation with programs like the Sloss Tech conference held June 25-27 and a new mobility accelerator to support electric vehicle and drone startups. He said building the local tech ecosystem and telling Birmingham's story are key to attracting talent and growing the region's technology sector.  The Birmingham Times

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities in Winston County found 40 dogs in distress and experts say the hoarding crisis is rising after nearly 180 dogs and 19 cats were found in Alabaster one month ago—119 dogs were so ill they had to be euthanized and two residents now face cruelty charges.  ABC 33/40

HEALTH NEWS

  • UAB professor Lawrence Sincich received a $2.1 million grant from the National Eye Institute for a four-year study to understand how the brain interprets signals from cone cells. The project will use adaptive optics technology to compare neural responses to clear and impaired images to help improve early diagnosis of vision loss.  University of Alabama at Birmingham
  • In June, Cahaba Medical Care’s residency program graduated 19 new doctors, making it the largest family medicine class in Alabama history, and 13 have stayed in Birmingham to care for underserved communities + boosting local health services.  Bham Now
