- ➤ A 42-year-old man, Courtenay Pierre Dufermeau, was fatally shot on the 300 block of Gloria Drive on Monday night at about 10:22 p.m.—Bessemer police are investigating the case as a homicide and urge anyone with information to come forward. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Birmingham police identified 55-year-old Laronda Jo Pyles as the hit-and-run victim on I-65 SB just past the I-20/59 interchange, where she was struck and pronounced dead just before 6:00 a.m. on July 22—authorities say the driver fled the scene. CBS 42

- ➤ Birmingham City Council approved nearly $13 million for street resurfacing as it awarded three contracts to Dunn Construction Company (the lowest bidder) to repair roads in the city.
