  • On Saturday, July 19, a day-long event took place at Pier 59 on Logan Martin Lake in Vincent to raise funds for buying Christmas gifts for every student at the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind. The fundraiser featured a boat poker run, a live auction—offering items like jewelry and date night packages—and a raffle, with all proceeds supporting the institute’s holiday gift program.  6 WBRC News

  • A crash Sunday morning at 3 a.m. near Mt. Olive Road left two male teenagers dead and six others injured when a pickup truck carrying eight youths left the road and hit a utility pole, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.  ABC 33/40

  • Milo’s Tea Company paused production at its Tulsa plant last week—switching operations to send over 119,000 bottles of water to the San Antonio Food Bank for Texas disaster relief—CEO Tricia Wallwork said. The company, based in Bessemer and founded in 1964, acted quickly to support neighbors affected by the flooding.  CBS 42

  • Birmingham detectives secured an arrest warrant for 21-year-old De’Aerius Johnson on Saturday after he was linked to the fatal shooting of Cameron Little and a non-life-threatening shooting of an adult woman on July 16 in the 100 Block of 84th Street North—he is now held without bond.  ABC 33/40

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BJCTA MAX Transit has been awarded a $25 million grant from the United States Department of Transportation to build a new maintenance and operations facility—this project will use advanced technology, cleaner energy and updated vehicle infrastructure to modernize transit operations in Birmingham-Jefferson County. The improvements will support the agency’s plan to boost a reliable transportation system and drive future growth in the region.  6 WBRC News
