- ➤ Corey Lavel Tremble was shot and killed on July 17 and police arrested 57-year-old Julius Earl Johnson on July 18 in the 2200 block of 47th Street Ensley; he is in Jefferson County Jail +with no bond for murder+ and faces a firearms warrant bond of $15,000 +issued by the district attorney’s office+. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Federal prosecutors charged two men who flew on a 1968 Beechcraft—carrying three kilograms of cocaine purchased in California—to sell drugs in Alabama after a confidential tip led to their arrest at Bessemer Airport. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett said today the city recorded 40 homicides in 2025 compared to 91 at the same point in 2024—focused patrols and rapid arrests in high crime areas led to an 80% clearance rate while property crimes increased, prompting the police to reallocate resources as criminal tactics evolve. - ➤ The 27th Annual Sidewalk Film Festival will run from Aug. 18 to Aug. 24 and will feature over 250 films including documentaries, narratives, animated films, music videos, and episodic videos.
