- ➤ Huntsville Police are asking for help to locate 70-year-old Denise Irene Mabry, originally from Birmingham and last seen at the Downtown Rescue Mission on September 9 – her son reported her missing after losing contact for over a year. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Birmingham will host the Southbound Food Festival from Sept. 19-28 at downtown venues like Pepper Place and Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark — the nonprofit event will feature signature attractions such as Funk Brunch: Gospel Bird on Sept. 28 along with chef demos, family dinners and live music. It is presented by Southern Living, the Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Alabama Department of Tourism to bring a wide array of culinary experiences to the city. The Birmingham Times

- ➤ Tax-free weekend is set for July 18 to midnight on July 20 and will let Birmingham and nearby cities offer school supplies, clothing and computers with no sales tax. Eligible purchases include clothing under $100, computers up to $750 and art supplies — while cell phones, video games and makeup remain taxable. Bham Now

- ➤ Small Magic is a free early literacy program that helps Birmingham families boost language skills and prepares young children for kindergarten readiness. The city-supported program began in 2019, celebrated a graduation in June, and started new weekly sessions on July 8th & uses wearable devices to track word counts. The Birmingham Times

- ➤ The Transportation Security Administration changed a 20-year-old rule so travelers can keep their shoes on during screening at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, citing improved screening technology. TSA said travelers may still be randomly checked and asked to remove their shoes if needed — the change takes effect this week. WVTM 13
