  • Alabama leaders mourn the tragic death of 8-year-old Sarah Marsh from Mountain Brook — who died in a deadly Texas flood at Camp Mystic that claimed at least 85 lives — as search and rescue operations continue under hazardous conditions.  Yellowhammer News

  • Big Whiskey’s American Restaurant & Bar will open a new location in Alabaster this fall in the former O’Charley’s building at the South Promenade shopping center—renovation will finish by the end of this month and employees will be trained in August before the restaurant welcomes the public in September.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Representative Givan said the family should get the bodycam footage from the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Jabari Peoples immediately while Peoples’ attorney Leroy Maxwell blamed her law for the delay—contrasting with the district attorney who said the footage will be released as soon as it is received—and urged calm with no harm to anyone.  ABC 33/40
  • Birmingham police investigated a homicide in Huffman Monday evening at the 800 block of School Avenue — a police spokesperson is expected to release more details soon — as the investigation unfolds.  WVTM 13
  • A petition filed by Jabari Peoples’ family to view body cam and dashcam footage from his shooting in a Homewood soccer park has been reassigned to Judge Elisabeth French—attorney Leroy Maxwell said the family seeks officer identities and evidence for a potential wrongful death suit, with a hearing set for Aug. 4 at 9 a.m.  CBS 42
