- ➤ Community organizers held a protest Sunday at a large Birmingham stage to demand answers after Jabari Peoples was killed by a Homewood officer nearly two weeks ago — nearly 20 protestors called for the release of the body cam video. Peoples’ mother filed a petition Wednesday and the city must reply by Friday with a hearing set for Aug 4. WVTM 13

- ➤ Katherine Goodwin, 30, was injured when a boat caught fire near Trident Marina on Lewis Smith Lake—she was airlifted to a Birmingham hospital while investigators work to determine the cause. WVTM 13
- ➤ A mobile home in Shelby County was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon in Summer Hill due to extreme heat and drought conditions — authorities reported no civilian injuries although one firefighter was treated and is expected to recover. CBS 42
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Evan Mayomi, a Birmingham man, was fatally shot in a New Market home early Sunday as officers responded to a call at 1:15 a.m.—Xavier Turner was arrested and is held in Madison County Jail without bond while the investigation continues. AL.com
- ➤ Pell City police arrested Barry Norris on July 4 after he fatally shot a man during an altercation at Lakeside Landing RV Park when officers arrived at about 3:26 a.m.—citizens had begun CPR and the victim was later pronounced dead at UAB St. Vincent’s St. Clair. 6 WBRC News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA reported that Alabama's average gas price fell by five cents from last week to $2.76 a gallon on Sunday — with Lauderdale and Etowah counties reporting the lowest rates at $2.66 a gallon, while many other counties saw prices above $3; the state's prices remain much lower than the national average of $3.15 a gallon.
