BUSINESS NEWS

  • More than 300 delegates from 33 countries gathered in Birmingham for the 16th annual North America Golf Tourism Convention held along Alabama’s renowned Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail—industry leaders played golf at Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge courses and enjoyed local cultural highlights like a gospel choir performance. Officials including Dan Williams and IAGTO CEO Peter Walton praised Birmingham's central location and Southern hospitality, saying the event will boost the state's golf tourism and hospitality industries in coming months.  ABC 33/40

CRIME NEWS

  • DeAngelo Dewayne Brown, a 40-year-old inmate at Birmingham City Jail, died Wednesday night at 11:58 p.m.—no cause has been determined while police investigate his death and plan an autopsy.  CBS 42
  • Birmingham police are still investigating the unsolved shooting deaths of brothers Erskin Irvin, who was shot on May 11th, 2023 on 33rd Street North, and Valdez Stephenson, who was found shot on May 29th, 2024 near his adoptive mother's home on 13th Street North—authorities urge anyone with information to call the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers.  CBS 42
  • Hoover police are asking for help in finding 13-year-old Isabella Ware who was last seen leaving her home on Grand Avenue on June 28 at 10:00 p.m.—she is white, has brown hair and brown eyes, stands 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 105 pounds.  ABC 33/40
  • Cody Blake Wilson is accused of hitting a state trooper with his car as he tried to escape on Interstate 65—he was out on bond for a similar incident 10 months ago and now faces multiple charges.  6 WBRC News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Reunion Weekend will take place July 11–12 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, just 1.5 hours from Birmingham, and will offer events like airplane flights, a lake swim, a reception dinner, and a Top Gun screening—along with an opportunity to meet the Space Camp Hall of Fame led by a man who never attended Space Camp as a child.  Bham Now

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Birmingham’s historic Rainbow Bridge, built in 1891 and closed to vehicles in January 2022, has allowed pedestrians and cyclists to use the temporary path installed in 2023—REV and city officials are planning an engineering study to determine the bridge’s future, and no reopening date has been set yet.  AL.com

  • Tickets are now available for WWE Monday Night Raw at Legacy Arena on July 14—this marks the first episode at the arena since 2023. The live event starts at 6:30 p.m. with the show airing on Netflix at 7 p.m.  6 WBRC News
