  • Alo Yoga will open its first Alabama store at The Summit in Birmingham this July. The athletic-leisure brand operates 71 locations across the U.S (including those in Atlanta and Nashville) and The Summit will announce the exact opening date later.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school teacher Ashley Allen discovered rare tetrapod trackways at the Union Chapel coal mine in Walker County, drawing global attention to one of Alabama’s most important fossil finds—an archaeological record that experts say is rare and significant. Allen and paleontologists will work to preserve the Minkin Fossil Site for future study and local tourism—efforts that aim to bring science learning and research to the area.  ABC 33/40
  • A federal judge is reviewing whether the new anti-DEI law violates the First Amendment after University of Alabama professors and students testified that the law hurt funding and forced changes in course content—faculty removed assignments and adjusted syllabi—while a decision is expected before the new school year begins.  WBHM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at UAB and Georgia State University found that an aggressive breast cancer type called QNBC grows by using a protein named KIFC1—lab and animal tests show that the drug CW069 slows its spread. Future studies will test CW069 with chemotherapy to develop a safer treatment.  University of Alabama at Birmingham

  • More than 8,500 first responders from over 70 countries gathered at Legacy Arena on Friday in downtown Birmingham for the opening ceremonies of the World Police and Fire Games—competition begins tomorrow with more than 60 sports including swimming and track and field.  WVTM 13
  • Athletes from the U.S. and over 70 other countries took part in the parade and cauldron lighting at Legacy Arena yesterday as part of the 2025 World Police and Fire Games, after a pre-parade party at BJCC. Local officials said 8,000 athletes were registered and strong security was in place — agency vehicles were seen throughout the venue.  CBS 42
