- ➤ Birmingham Police Chief Michael Pickett announced on June 19 that homicides dropped 75% in June with just 3 killings instead of 12 last year and a 49% drop year-to-date—crediting police and city residents for their support. Yellowhammer News
- ➤ A shooting early in the morning on June 22 left two men injured at El Centenario Night Club on the 1100 Block of 3rd Avenue West, and police are searching for a suspect driving a white 2014-2015 Nissan Altima — officials ask anyone with information to come forward. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Hoover incumbent Derrick Murphy, who has served since 2016 and ran unopposed in 2020, faces challenger Steve Lawrence who announced his bid this week — the election is set for August 26 with a run-off on September 23 if needed.
