- ➤ Country music star Thomas Rhett will perform at Birmingham's new Coca-Cola Amphitheater and said he is excited to be one of the first country artists to play the venue—he has a strong connection to the city and his show will feature many hit songs. ABC 33/40
- ➤ Local leaders opened the new Coca-Cola Amphitheater this morning with speeches from Mayor Randall Woodfin (city official) and other officials while music students performed songs from a Broadway hit. The 9,300-seat outdoor venue (a collaboration by BJCC, the City, Jefferson County, and Live Nation) will host its first performance tomorrow with comedian Matt Rife as part of over 30 shows scheduled for the season. - ➤ ASBCTC and ASTTU announced an alliance to boost support for union workers in Alabama’s construction industry. Unveiled on June 18, the partnership will offer no-cost benefits—such as disability income protection and extra medical coverage—and will work to improve workforce training and labor standards in a right-to-work state. - ➤ The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Athletics Department announced that Dwight and Sandy Sandlin pledged $1 million to fund renovations at Bartow Arena, aiming to modernize the entrance lobby, seating, and other event spaces.
