- ➤ City of Birmingham will start the public input phase of the Civil Rights Crossroads project to connect Graymont and Smithfield neighborhoods with a 3-mile trail and wider sidewalks for pedestrians and bus riders. The first meeting will be Tuesday night at Legion Field at 6:00 p.m. and will continue all week — the project is funded by over $20 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation and is set to finish by 2028. - ➤ Taxpayers are paying for over 100 lawsuits settled by the Alabama Department of Corrections since 2020, with $17 million spent on settlements and nearly $13 million going to attorney fees.
