ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A two-car crash at the intersection of 11th Court North and 42nd Place North on June 8th at 2:15 p.m. claimed the life of an adult woman—Birmingham Police are still investigating the incident.  ABC 33/40
  • Authorities in Irondale are searching today for four juveniles who went missing while tubing along the Cahaba River near the Highway 78 bridge Saturday evening—emergency crews including drone and helicopter teams are assisting while family members are supported at a local church.  ABC 33/40

CRIME NEWS

  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency warns Alabamians of a nationwide phishing scam using fraudulent texts that claim to be from the DMV and demand payment for non-existent traffic tickets—recipients who click the link or share personal information may have their driving privileges suspended for 30 days.  1819 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • REV Birmingham helped downtown get stronger by giving over $1.1 million in grants to small businesses and renovating empty buildings—boosting historic neighborhoods and filling vacant storefronts. The group will launch a new plan to create more jobs and invite further investment in downtown and Woodlawn.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin and the City Council filed a lawsuit when Governor Kay Ivey signed SB330, asking the court to block the law from taking effect — saying it lacks a clear legal basis. They later added state and county officials to the suit, which claims that racially charged remarks and questionable utility management helped push SB330 forward.  1819 News

  • City leaders cut the ribbon on a new 143 unit senior housing complex in Southtown as part of a 60 million dollar redevelopment plan — the project allows 131 seniors to move back soon and adds 65 multi family units with plans for future shops and offices.  The Birmingham Times
