- ➤ The City of Birmingham worked with local Southside businesses to host a free, family-friendly Safe Summer block party at Brother Bryan Park on Saturday, June 7—an event planned to help the community bounce back after last fall's mass shooting that left 21 people shot and four killed. The block party featured musical acts, food trucks, and local merchants selling food—efforts aimed at boosting local confidence and reviving the neighborhood economy. AL.com
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Birmingham police investigated a homicide on Second Avenue North at 11th Street when they found a man shot dead under the I-65 bridge on June 7, 2025—he is the city’s 35th homicide of the year. AL.com
- ➤ On June 5, three packages of contraband drugs were confiscated at Donaldson Correctional Facility after a security officer was detained for allegedly avoiding a search and admitting to having marijuana, and the packages reportedly contained 230 grams of marijuana, 172 grams of methamphetamine + an unknown substance. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ City attorneys filed an amended lawsuit on Friday challenging a state law that changed the Water Works board and ended the city’s franchise fee.
