- ➤ Birmingham's East Lake Library reopened today after a four-year closure with new features such as a new elevator, a foyer, updated restrooms and a renovated auditorium and stage—changes that give people better access to books and programs—and Mayor Randall Woodfin said the upgrades make the library a stronger part of our community. - ➤ New video shows a person of interest in the killing of 60-year-old Frank Jackson, who was shot in his car at the 6th Avenue Meat and Grocery Store in Titusville on May 5—police say the person wears khaki pants and a dark hoodie and ask anyone with tips to call Crime Stoppers at 205—254—7777. 6 WBRC News
- ➤ Former Walker County deputy Braxton Kee, 23, pleaded guilty to depriving Tony Mitchell of his rights after Mitchell died from neglect in jail on January 26, 2023—making him the 14th official to admit his role in the case. CBS 42
- ➤ Birmingham police arrested 25-year-old Nakia Wayne Douglas on Tuesday after a stabbing in the Dolomite neighborhood (the victim was taken to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries) and charged him with attempted murder (he is held on a $60,000 bond at Jefferson County Jail). ABC 33/40

- ➤ On Wednesday, immigration advocates said several immigrants attending routine check-in meetings for the federal Intensive Supervision Appearance Program were detained at ICE offices in Homewood and Gadsden — one local resident reported her mother, who had attended appointments regularly for 8 years, was taken while she waited in the car. Reports noted some witnesses saw up to 50 detainees at Birmingham’s ICE office and 18 in Gadsden. AL.com
