  • Irondale officials finished 300 days of due diligence for a 152,000 sqft Costco project estimated at $105 million, expected to create 200 to 300 jobs + generate $6 to $8 million in annual sales tax revenue.   • The Homewood Theatre will stage 'Working' (a new musical about everyday work) for local audiences soon. More details on showtimes and tickets will be announced.  6 WBRC News
  • Seventeen University of Alabama students and graduates are set to compete in the Miss Alabama competition at Samford University in Birmingham from June 3-6. Contestants will participate in interviews, talent and evening gown rounds + promote community service and scholarship opportunities.  Yellowhammer News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • City officials finalized a deal with Costco last Friday, clearing the way for a $105 million development at Grants Mill Road and Interstate 459 (the project will include a 152,000 sqft warehouse and gas station and is expected to create up to 300 jobs).  WVTM 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The ADCNR Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division is asking local residents to help track turkey populations in its annual wild turkey brood survey, which runs from June 1 until Aug. 31. Participants can submit observations via an app (or paper) to build data on turkey trends.  Yellowhammer News

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A new feature lists 12 Alabama brands locals call pantry must-haves, including Conecuh Sausage (recently hailed as the most iconic breakfast food) and Golden Eagle Syrup, made since 1928. The list also names items like Red Diamond Coffee and Tea and Milo’s Sweet Tea found in local grocery stores.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • Kickoff times for the first three college football games were announced for Alabama and Auburn. Alabama will play Eastern Carolina at 11:00 a.m. CST and face Kentucky and Florida State next, while Auburn will face Baylor in Atlanta at 2:30 p.m. CST and then host Southern Miss and the Florida Gators.  Yellowhammer News
