CRIME NEWS

  • Three spas — Grace Spa and Tru Acupressure in Alabaster and Lily Massage in Chelsea — are under investigation for alleged prostitution and human trafficking after two suspects were charged while local authorities plan to revoke their business licenses.  ABC 33/40
  • On May 21, 2025, Jefferson County deputies and SNET executed search warrants on the 2300 block of 3rd Way N.E. and the 700 block of Springville Road in Birmingham, arresting 28-year-old Jimmy Earl Donaldson and 44-year-old Shanndolyn Yvette Morgan while seizing narcotics and firearms—officials said the bust removes dangerous drugs and weapons—adding a significant measure for local public safety.  ABC 33/40
  • Authorities are asking for help to locate Jennifer Suree Moses— a 49-year-old woman with brown eyes and brown hair last seen on the 1400 Block of 17th Street North wearing a blue shirt, burgundy corduroy pants, and blue shoes; she has a condition that affects her judgment and endangers her safety.  ABC 33/40

  • Southern Living named two Birmingham restaurants among its top 20 best new eateries in the South. Armour House on 1st Ave, open since November inside the historic Armour and Co. Building, offers brasserie-style dishes and a hidden speakeasy—Pogo—while Bayonet on 2nd Ave, owned by chef Rob McDaniel and his wife, serves fresh Gulf seafood and a locally loved oyster martini.  Bham Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New data from Jefferson County show sewer overflows have dropped 30% in the past year and 70% over the last 10 years—county officials stress that fewer overflows mean less flooding during heavy rains and urge residents not to flush wipes or pour grease down drains.  6 WBRC News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A lawsuit filed by the City of Birmingham led to a settlement with the Norwood Plaza Apartments owners to demolish the complex at 1717 32nd Place North after years of repeated drug activity and illegal behavior. The management company will relocate current tenants within 90 days and complete a phased demolition before January 1 — with monthly progress reports provided.  The Birmingham Times
