GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Critics say Alabama’s open records law hinders transparency with only a 10% compliance rate and agencies that take an average of 187 days to respond. Lawmakers may revisit the law next spring to tighten deadlines and reduce fees—steps aimed at improving access to government records.  AL.com
  • Alabama State Troopers launched the 101 Days of Summer Safety campaign over Memorial Day weekend to help reduce injuries on roads and waterways. Troopers will patrol highways and lakes while urging drivers and boaters to follow safety rules—like wearing life jackets and buckling up.  WVTM 13

  • Vanderbilt won the SEC baseball tournament on Sunday by defeating Ole Miss 3-2 at the Hoover Met and earned its 5th trophy in school history. Auburn is projected as a top-seeded team in the NCAA Regionals despite its loss to Texas A&M, while Alabama's Crimson Tide are expected to be the 2-seeded team as the NCAA selection show airs today at 12 p.m. on ESPN2.  6 WBRC News
