- ➤ On Memorial Day weekend, volunteers placed over 11,000 flags at every headstone at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo to honor the men and women who served. - ➤ State lawmakers made reducing violent crime in Birmingham and Montgomery a session priority by approving a package that funds a crime suppression unit—one that successfully reduced violent incidents in Montgomery last year while also protecting officers from lawsuits unless they acted recklessly.
