  • On Memorial Day weekend, volunteers placed over 11,000 flags at every headstone at the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo to honor the men and women who served. The 17th Annual Memorial Day Ceremony will be held Monday at 9 a.m. with a flyover, patriotic music, and a cannon salute.  6 WBRC News

  • Birmingham Police is asking for help to locate 15-year-old Que'Darrius Anderson, who was reported missing on May 22 and was last seen on the 2000 Block of 18th Street SW wearing a black shirt, hoodie, black pants, and slides (call 205-328-9311 if you have any information).  ABC 33/40

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Michelin Guide announced last month that it will now cover the American South and is spotlighting Birmingham restaurants for star and Bib Gourmand ratings. Inspectors will use criteria like ingredient quality & cooking techniques to assess each spot.  Yellowhammer News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers made reducing violent crime in Birmingham and Montgomery a session priority by approving a package that funds a crime suppression unit—one that successfully reduced violent incidents in Montgomery last year while also protecting officers from lawsuits unless they acted recklessly. The measures aim to improve safety and bolster law enforcement efforts in both cities.  Yellowhammer News
