  • Neighbors in Ensley say they are relieved to see the Vues on Prince apartments being torn down—this demolition follows a judge's order after the building was found with over 40 code violations, multiple fire calls, and concerns about criminal activity. Local residents hope the vacated site will eventually allow for commercial use.  WVTM 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The American Theatre Guild announced that single tickets for Wicked will be available for purchase starting May 30 at 10 a.m.—the musical will play 24 times at the BJCC Concert Hall from September 3 to September 21.  ABC 33/40

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bluff Park Elementary teacher Katie Collins was named Alabama’s 2025-26 Teacher of the Year on Tuesday and received a 2025 Chevy Traverse during a celebrated assembly. She will use the car to travel statewide as she speaks at civic events and promotes classroom best practices—an honor now given for 29 years.  Yellowhammer News

  • Judge Fred Bolling recused himself from a civil case involving the Birmingham Water Works Board after lawyers cited a 2021 email that raised questions about his impartiality. He stepped aside on Tuesday at the utility's request to avoid a media circus in the lawsuit brought by small business owner Sherry McCostlin contesting high water bills.  AL.com

  • The World Police & Fire Games will be held in Birmingham from June 27 to July 6, where over 8,500 first responders will compete in more than 60 events across 35 venues—this biennial event celebrates athletic excellence and international unity.  ABC 33/40
