- ➤ Zion Memorial Gardens, a historic cemetery serving the community since the mid-1800s, closed suddenly on Tuesday with a sign at its entrance and was later announced to reopen after grieving families raised concerns & the Alabama Board of Funeral Services said it is investigating several complaints. - ➤ Hoover is ranked 6th best place to live by U.S. News and World Report today based on factors (affordability, job market and quality of life). Other Alabama cities also earned high marks, but Hoover was the only local community to enter the U.S. top 40 list. Bham Now
- ➤ The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama will move into its new 72,000 sqft headquarters in Bessemer at the end of June and expects to welcome volunteers by the end of July; the modern facility on Lakeshore Drive offers expanded refrigeration capacity and multiple drive-up bays for deliveries. - ➤ A local family has moved into a new home built by Habitat For Humanity with help from local volunteers (their support made the project possible). The completed project offers the family a fresh start in the community. 6 WBRC News

- ➤ Former Sen. Doug Jones said Alabama’s voting rules and redistricting made it hard for voters to have a meaningful voice on Tuesday’s primary in Jefferson County. Jones, running for governor, urged registration while pledging nonpartisan redistricting and Medicaid expansion if elected. AL.com
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ UAB researchers have identified the protein Tomosyn-2 as key to balancing insulin secretion and beta cell growth, which may guide future diabetes treatments. The study, featured in the May issue of Diabetes, shows that loss of the protein enhances insulin release but limits cell expansion. University of Alabama at Birmingham
