- ➤ Birmingham recorded its deadliest year in 2024 when 153 lives were lost, including 16 tied to suspect Damien McDaniel, as prosecutors charged 15 people with 33 murders and investigators reported a 55 percent drop in monthly killings after key arrests. WVTM 13
- ➤ A joint law enforcement operation in Jefferson County on May 16 led to 24 arrests—including 35 year old Casey Thomas Jones facing a drug trafficking charge—and cleared 21 warrants while local agencies made 444 community contacts to boost safety. ABC 33/40

- ➤ Build UP is Birmingham’s first early college workforce development high school, where low-income students learn trades like construction and auto repair while earning a diploma and an associate’s degree. - ➤ Over the weekend, strong storms downed trees and power lines, blocking roads and damaging houses in Jefferson County while leaving over 200 power outages for more than 4,297 residents.
