  • Craig Carlisle, the current Alabama Baptist State Convention president and director of missions for Etowah Baptist Convention, was announced Friday as a nominee for second vice president of the Southern Baptist Convention by Jared Cornutt from North Shelby Baptist Church in Birmingham.  1819 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Birmingham Water Works filed on Thursday to ask Judge Bolling to recuse himself from the civil case brought by business owner Sherry McCostlin — the filing cites his past contentious email exchange with attorney Mark Parnell and a long-standing adversarial relationship that could risk perceived bias. The utility, which serves over 770,000 customers, is relying on a new regional board to address its ongoing legal disputes.  AL.com
  • Alabama’s Legislature passed a law that gives police more protection from being sued and Governor Kay Ivey signed it after lawmakers changed rules for use of force. Some critics worry the law will make it hard for people hurt by police to get justice—lawmakers say the change is needed because cities can’t keep enough officers.  AL.com
